Dream Project

I know, I know. I was supposed to be writing on the MBTI time warp idea. Truth be told, there is a draft being worked on right now. Thing is though, something else came up. Since this is my blog and all, I figured I’d go ahead and get it out of the way. Plus, I need to hurry up and get this written before my daughter takes this iPad from me.

I’ve been listening to a podcast called THE HAPPY BOOK. The host, Tania McCartney, is an Australian author, editor, and illustrator of kids books. You should give it a listen if you’re interested in learning about the kid lit publishing industry. I like it because it’s largely apolitical, which is a rarity in this podcast genre. Moreover, the lady knows her stuff.

Anyway, she always asks the same question of her guests when wrapping up an interview. If you were guaranteed publishing, what would your dream project be? Well, odds are that I’m never going to be one of her guests, so I figured I’d answer that question here.

While I mostly prefer to write middle grades fiction (available on Amazon and Kindle, by the way), there is a young adult novel I’ve been kicking around in my head for a couple (or maybe six plus) of months. The protagonist is a young ISFJ teen girl with a mysterious background. She has a strange relationship with water. But here’s the dreamy part for me. It would be a period piece (late 1800’s perhaps) located in the American Southwest. Of course I’d have to have a writing location out there where I could go to be alone and write the whole story out while viewing those breathtaking desert landscapes.

So that’s my dream project. I’ll probably write the story minus the exotic office locale. But it sure would be a much richer book with all that inspiration sitting around me. Feel free to tell me your dream project. I think it’s an interesting question. You may surprise yourself with the answer too.

Great place for an office?
