Let’s face it ENTP’s are bizarre people. Oh, they’re good folks and usually fun to be around. But they’re just weird. I submit exhibit A – NIGHT PEOPLE by Sean Gilbert.
Before I continue, full disclosure. I’ve known the author personally for decades. He’s a good friend of mine. He’s written many books over the years, all bizarre in their own way. This one, though, is the perfect glimpse into the mind of an ENTP. Sure there are a lot of weird things going on in the plot. You’ve got devils, contrarian floating heads, somewhat of a mermaid-succubus-human love triangle, and armed civil war re-enactor battles. But the truly bizarre thing in the book is the lead character’s cavalier, yet cynical attitude. This attitude is, intellectual as well as emotional, is a trademark of the ENTP.
The ENTP is the Extraverted-iNtuitive-thinker-perceiver personality in the Meyers-Briggs system (MBTI), nicknamed the debater. While the author may certainly be one of these, the main character in NIGHT PEOPLE definitely is. This is a fun book to read with interesting short stories and over the top supernatural fun. It’s great for Halloween. But in the streets of Savannah, Georgia, it’s just par for the course.
Note: The movie version would probably be rated PG-13 for strong language. This isn’t a criticism at all. But Since I write fiction for kids and he doesn’t, I didn’t want any confusion.
